OBIT - Joseph W Brandl - MHTR - from Agnes Birringer - 12/99 Joseph W. Brandl, 73, of Rt. 1, Cato, former town assessor, and father of 15 children died Sunday afternoon following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a. m. Wednesday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 10 a. m. at the St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. The Rev. Michael Fetko will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Brandl was born in Cato in 1879 and in 1901 marrIed Miss Mary Schreiner. He operated a farm in the town for 45 years. He was named Cato assessor In 1924 and served through 1950, a 21 year span. In October, 1951, the couple observed their golden wedding. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. Surviving are his wife; eight sons, Charles. Leonard and Jack of Columbus, Ohio, Victor, Ottmar and Herbert of Manitowoc, Bernard of Rt. 1, Whitelaw, and Robert of Rt. 1, Cato; seven daughters, Sister M. Hermengild of Potosi Wis., Mrs. Geroge Riederer, Mrs. Ray Mahlock, Mrs. Andrew Budnar of Manitowoc, Mrs. Bernard Augustine of Sheboygan. Mrs. Ann Ebert of Rt. 1 Cato, and Mrs. Paul Steiber of Rt. 2. Reedsville, brother Charles of Rt. 1, Cato; two sisters, Mrs. John Riederer and Mrs. George Loritz of Manitowoc, 36 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p. m. Monday where the rosary will be recited at 8 p m. Monday and at the same hour Tuesday evening by the Holy Name Society.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc, Rev Gerald Prusakowski OFM will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial and burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. She was born Veronica Brandl on August 28, 1902 at New Ulm, Minn., daughter of the late Joseph W and Mary Schriener Brandl. She moved to Manitowoc with her parents as a child, residing here since. She attended Parochial School at Clarks Mills and also attended the Manitowoc Business College for two years. She was married to George J Riederer, September 27, 1921, at St Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. He preceded her in death August 14, 1971. She was a member of St Boniface Catholic Church. Survivors include five brothers, Leonard Brandl of Columbus, Ohio, Ottmar, Robert and Herbert Brandl all of Manitowoc and Leander of Columbus, Ohio; four sisters, Elizabeth Augustine of Sheboygan, Sister Mary Hermengild, Agnes Mahlock and Ann Ebert all of Manitowoc. She was preceded in death by a daughter, June, four brothers, Bernard, Victor, Charles and Joseph Jr. Brandl, two sisters, Beatrice Steeber and Rose Budnar. Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home, after 9 a.m. Friday until the time of service. There will be no Thursday evening visitation at the funeral home.
