Bethany Baptist Church was organized in the spring of 1867, about three-fourths of a mile from its present location. The first building was a one-room structure. In 1898 the church acquired its present property, and voted to construct a church building, which was completed in the spring of 1900. This building was remodeled in 1953. A brick structure was erected in 1957-58, this building was destroyed by fire in the fall of 1981. The present building was constructed in 1982-83.

As a church family, Bethany is striving to be factual to our Lord's command though whorship, Bible study and fellowship. We pray God will equip us to minster and witness to the children, youth, and adults of our community. Our vision for people to come to know Jesus Christ is not just to the Whynot Community, but around the world. Our involvement in the Great Commision is demonstrated though giving to the Cooperative Program and through home and foreign mission. To love Him is to serve Him by telling others of His saving grace. The following verse of scripture shares what our commitment should always be:"He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doutless come again with rejoicing, bring his sheaves with him." May each of us always be committed to faithfully serving the Lord.
