OBIT - Joseph Meitl - Oberlin Herald, Thursday, July 27, 1922 - from Frank Knopp to RJ Pritzl 11/06 Joseph Meitl died at his home in Leoville, June 30, aged 73 years. 8 months and 16 days, as a result of a general failure of his health. complicated with asthma. Joseph Meitl was born in Bavaria, Germany, October 14, 1848; came to this country when 13 years of age, settling first in Wisconsin. Came to Kansas in the 70's and to Decatur County in 1885; living on a farm in Summit township 11 miles south of Oberlin. Later he bought a farm near Dresden and a few years ago, bought a residence property in Leoville, where he lived until his death. In 1880 Joseph Meitl married. Ten children were born to this union, five boys and five girls; all of whom are living except ALBERT, who died in July 1915. All of the children were present at the funeral held at the church in Leoville, July 3rd, except Henry Meitl, of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Kate Meitl Kaus, of Idaho, who were unable to be present. Those left to mourn are the wife, nine children, grandchildren and numerous friends around Leoville and Dresden. Surely a good man has gone to his reward.

George Schroer, son of George and Bemadina (Galbert) Schroer, was born January 28, 1883, in Grafton, Nebraska. His parents came to America from Hannover, Germany, and were married February 9, 1869 at Fort Madison, Iowa. Later they moved to Nebraska, then on to Kansas in 1885 homesteading one mile east of Leoville. The children of George and Bernadine were Margaret, Helena, John, Elizabeth, George and Bernard. George married Louise Meitl on August 3, 1909, at Leoville. They raised their family of 11 children on the home place east of Leoville. Their children were Teresa, Laura, Rose, James, Joseph, Albert, Odelia, William, George Jr., Betty and Robert. George farmed most of his life and died November 30, 1943. Louise passed away January 22, 1975. Both are buried in the Leoville Cemetery. Teresa E. Schroer was born at Dresden, Kansas, July 14, 1910, and married Leo Goscha, November 5, 1931, at Leoville by Father Martin J. Schmitt. They began their married life on a farm east of Selden. Then they moved to a farm 14 miles south of Dresden in 1939. In 1959 the couple moved to Norton County and farmed 20 years before retiring to Norton city. Eleven children were born to this union, seven daughters and four sons, with 39 grandchildren. Laura Schroer, born June 10, 1913, was married to Joseph Beris on January 12, 1932, by Father Schmitt at Leoville. Joe was born March 8, 1909, and passed away July 19, 1976. Joe managed elevators in Dresden and Selden for a number of years. The couple had six children and 22 grandchildren. Rose Marie Schroer, born January 14, 1915, married Paul Lamberson, September 15, 1939. Four children were born to this couple. Paul passed away in November 1967. James Schroer and Betty (Verheijen) Schroer were married on October 1, 1942. James, born June 27, 1917, and Betty, born June 2, 1924, have 12 children. Joseph Schroer, born October 14, 1920, married Dorris Mithcel on October 14, 1943. The couple have two children, one son and one daughter. Albert Schroer married Audrey Karls, February 25, 1971, at Leoville. Albert was born June 12, 1922, and Audrey was born November 16, 1929. Audrey passed away October 30, 1976. Albert still farms the home place. Odelia Schroer, born August 14, 1924, married Francis Robert Lagesse of Plainville, Kansas, on September 5, 1946. The couple have eight children, four girls and four boys, and eight grandchildren. William Schroer and Mary Lou Suizman were married June 16, 1953, by Father Clement Kruse in Leoville. William was born April 2, 1926, and Mary Lou was born June 27, 1932. They have four boys and four girls and two grandchildren. George Schroer Jr. was born May 14, 1928, and died February 6, 1974. Betty Lou Schroer married Wilbert Kogi, September 4, 1950, at Leoville by Father Cronin. She was born February 18, 1931, and died September 28, 1978. Wilbert was born August 20, 1929. There are seven children, four girls and three boys. Robert Schroer, born August 14, 1934, lives in Leoville in the home once owned by Pete Pauls. She married John Heim, May 6, 1914, at Leovllle. He died Dec. 3, 1960. They lived on a farm near Dresden until retiring in 1960. She was a
member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Hoxie, the church Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella of Leoville.
Survivors include three sons; Edwin, Denison, Texas, Ray, Westminster. Colo. and Alfred, Grapevine, Texas; five daughters, Lillian Heim,
Hoxie, Irene Kruse, Selden, Mildred Barnett, Colby, Lorene Reinert, Lincoln, Neb., and Berniece Halle, Colorado Springs, Colo; and 58
grandchildren and 87 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons. Father Cornelius Heim and Julius Heim; a daughter, Leona Zodrow; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the church, with Father Richard Lutgen and Father Jim Reinert officiating; burial in the
church cemetery. There will be a wake at 8 p.m. Friday at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie. Friends may call until service time at
the funeral home.

She was born December 27, 1922, at the family farm southeast of Leoville, Kansas, to John and Margaret (Meitl) Heim. Irene was raised on a farm in the Leoville and Dresden area along with ten brothers and sisters. She attended Prairie Center Grade School, graduated from Leoville High School in 1942, and attended Marymount College in Salina for one year. Irene then taught at the grade school she attended for three years. On May 29, 1946, Irene was united in marriage to John Marlin Kruse in Leoville. They lived on a farm south of Leoville for nine years before moving to Selden. Raising eleven children and making a home for her large family kept Irene very busy as a young mother, but it was a vocation she enjoyed and was proud of. In addition, she relished watching her family grow to include in-laws and grandchildren. Irene loved having family get-togethers and following her grandchildren's activities. She was an active member (of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society in Selden. Over the years, she served as a religious education teacher and helped with many ministries within the church. Survivors include five sons, Bernard of Holsington, John and wife, Cindy of Arvada, CO. Michael of Goodland, Daniel of Topeka, and Steve of Selden; six daughters; Marlene Tignor of Cheyenne, WY, Donna McGee of Olathe, Patricia Brown and husband, Mike of Joplin, MO, Mary Deyle and husband, Gary of Imperial, NE., Suzanne Johnson and husband, Steve of Belleville, TX. And Christina Immelman and husband, Allan of Washington, DC; three brothers and wives, Ed and Lou Heim of Dennison, TX, Ray and Annie Heim of Westminster, CO. and Alfred & Marge Heim of St. Joe, TX; three sisters, Mildred Green and husband, Gerald of Colby, Lorene Reinert of Lincoln, NE., and Berniece Halle and husband, Alan of Mission Viejo, CA; 27 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Frank and Anna Dempewolf Frank was born February 12,1888, on the homestead of his parents, Joseph and Caroline (Raney) Dempewolf, one mile east of Leoville. He attended school only four years in a sod house and then stayed home to help. Frank married Anna Meitl at Dyersville, Iowa, on November 27, 1917. Anna was the youngest daughter of ten children of Joseph and Eva Meitl. She was born February 15, 1898, 11 miles north of Selden, Kansas. She attended Leoville school. Frank and Anna lived on his father's farm east of Leoville and after various moves settled on a farm four miles east and three-fourths mile north of Leoville. Frank and Anna had ten children, all of them born at home. Victor married Pearl Halligan and is living in Sterling, Colorado; Carolyn married Claude Peterson and is living in Wichita, Kansas; Edna married Don Hendrix and is living in Topeka, Kansas; Eugene married Vona Lea Wilson and is living in Seguin, Kansas; Richard married Regina Moellering and is living in Colby, Kansas; Pauline married Francis Ritter and is living in Dresden, Kansas; Gerald married Marian Gilbert and died October 11, 1982 of cancer and is buried at Oberlin, Kansas; Dolores married Paul Koerperich who died in May 1975, and then married Ted Zerr in May 1979 and is living in Hoxie, Kansas; Donald married Laurene Olson and is living in Oberlin, Kansas; and Dianne married Myron Kleidosty and is living in Sylmar, California. Anna died August 31,1947, at McCook, Nebraska, from a heart attack. Frank remained on the farm until 19©0 when he sold the farm and retired to Oberlin, Kansas. Frank enjoyed life, his family and his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He died of heart failure January 29, 1983. Frank and Anna are buried at Leoville, Kansas.
