"A Journey to Academic Excellence" is the theme of Jostens Renaissance
Program that promotes and rewards academic achievement.
What is Renaissance?
Renaissance, a proven viable solution to scholastic challenges,
is designed to promote and recognize academic achievement.
It helps students experience the joy of learning, recognizes educators
as dedicated and valued professionals, and increases the involvement of
parents and businesses. A partnership between businesses, civic organizations,
and schools provide incentives and leadership. Its primary objective is to give
positive recognition to students for their positive behavior and achievement. In the fall of 1995, Sebring Middle School joined this nationwide Renaissance program sponsored by Jostens, (the same corporation that publishes the SMS yearbook). SMS Renaissance Card are earned on one of five levels (see below). Aspects of the Renaissance ProgramAcademic Achievement: Listed are the specific Grade Point Averages (G.P.A.) that must be earned as part of the criteria for membership. Responsibility: As stated in the student handbook, students who have been absent are required to bring a note from home stating the reason for their absence. It is the student's responsibility to present the note to his/her homeroom teacher upon return to school. This note should include the student's name as registered, reason for absence, day(s) missed, and parent's signature. Failure to provide an acceptable reason for absence and the written note means a child cannot receive a card which he/she otherwise might have earned. Citizenship: Renaissance card holders are expected to behave in an exceptable manner, show respect and cooperation. This is accomplished by receiving no disciplinary referrals. If a student receives a referral, he/she will not be eligible for membership. This policy also applies to bus referrals. Each nine weeks, Renaissance membership is issued to qualified candidates. These cards are distributed on a the day of a Renaissance Rally. In addition, students receive a packet of coupons, gifts, and prizes. Cardholders need to carry their card with them at all times to take advantage of occasional 'surprise' incentives. How can I help?
